THE PROJECT
Objective

PREVENTING AND MINIMIZING MARINE LITTER in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, and neighboring communities, in particular from land-based activities by targeting the problem at the source and SUSTAINING LOCAL ECONOMIES through the establishment of a sustainable waste management system in the target region. The project also targets the transformation of such plastic into long-lasting products for surrounding communities (e.g., boats), ensuring that the material will not end up in water bodies.
CONCEPT
The Social Recycling Hub aims on provide financial sustainabilty for project exploring different business models, and TESTING THE USAGE OF NO OR LOW-VALUE PLASTICS, ghost fishing nets among others into long lasting products, assuring the SUPs are removed from the environment.
